Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory & Its Ongoing Legacy in WNY
Cornell University operated The Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory (CAL) from 1945 until 1972 in facilities located near the Greater Buffalo International Airport.  The laboratory is probably best known for its wind tunnel, but among the inventions developed at CAL are the first crash test dummy, the automotive seat belt, the first mobile unit with Doppler weather radar, the first accurate airborne simulation of another aircraft, the first flight demonstration of automatic terrain-following radar, and a prototype fingerprint reading system.

Although Cornell's involvement ended in 1972, the legacy of the Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory continues today through its successor, Calspan Corporation and many other companies founded by former CAL employees.

Join the Cornell Club of Greater Buffalo for dinner followed by a presentation by Louis Knotts, President & CEO of Calspan Holdings and comments from representatives from some of the WNY companies that trace their origin to Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory.

Cost:
Cornell alumni & guests: $40
Young Cornell alumni (class of 2009-2014): $30
Senior Cornell alumni (class of 1970 or earlier): $30

Cost includes a buffet dinner consisting of fruit medley, olive salad, green beans with red peppers, carrots, potatoes, penne pasta & sauce, meatballs, chicken francaise, turkey and top round carving station. Cash bar.
