workshops at Crescent Lotus Dance Studio's with
ROSE HARDEN The Shimmy Shakedown - Solidify your shimmy work with an in-depth focus on this essential belly dance technique. This shimmy clinic is great for all levels, from beginner to advanced as material will be modified to suit all students. We'll get in to the nitty gritty details as we define different kinds of shimmies- 4/4, 3/4, vibrations, shoulder shimmies and more. We will incorporate dynamic floor patterns, traveling, spins, upper body layers, and shimmies for slow music in this exciting class. I will also share with you my unique approach to achieving big, juicy shimmies. You will walk away with improved shimmies and lots of material for your personal practice. All levels welcome.
JULIE REA Bite-Sized Combos- Join Julie for bite-sized workshop that will explore bite-sized movement combinations that can be used in improvisational performance and choreographies alike and how to personalize them and incorporate them into your dance. We'll explore and drill our movement vocabulary for the day, including isolations and layering, and then fold them into playful, uptempo combos with an emphasis on musical phrasing. All levels welcome.
JODI WASECA Fancy Fusion- Adding props such as feather fans (or any style of fan!) to your dance can add elements of intoxicating drama, mystery, and beauty. This workshop will not only work with the different ways to move with your fans, but how to hold, take care of and make this prop an extension of yourself and your creativity. Exploration into dramatic pops! or soft transitions will be covered. Learn how drawing the audience in with a simple surprise flick of the fan can be exciting and fascinating. Once we get the hang of holding and moving our fans, we will do a short choreography with our new skill! This class will also go over how to keep your body in good shape while using the sometimes heavy and cumbersome fans (it's so worth it no matter the challenge!).. If time allows, we will also go over how to make and repair your own feather fans. All levels welcome.
