Part 1 :: Instrumentation, Production and Arrangement Workflow by Liam Shy

We will begin by exploring the early stages of songwriting, including the often overlooked pre-production stage. Liam will then demonstrate techniques to harness the power of Live's Session View for coming up with ideas quickly and on-the-fly. The last step will be understanding how to navigate from Session View to Arrangement View in a fun and creative way! Expect to see some Max For Live, Push and useful Ableton shortcuts deployed to create a streamlined workflow!

Part 2 :: Harmony, Melody and Drums by Will Marshall

Diving head-first into a low-tempo groove, Mr Marshall will demonstrate the construction of deep, bass-heavy beats. Next he'll look at Harmony, Melody and Structure; building a song outline in Live using applied Pop Theory. Finally, he'll look at translating this outline into a fully realized, polished track.

Will Marshall is a DJ, producer, hacker and educator from New Zealand, currently based in Oakland.

With a string of successful breakbeat releases on labels such as Broken Robot Records, VIM Records and Warped Recordings, Will has recently side-stepped into mid-tempo production, and is currently working on jazz, hip-hop and glitch-hop material.

Alongside his production, Will specializes in Live performance and LiveAPI programming. He has released a string of popular templates for Ableton, and has worked with artists such as Ill Gates, Freq Nasty, the Fungineers and Mr Bill, as well as companies such as Livid Instruments, KMI and Novation. Liam Shy is an Ableton Trainer at Pyramind in San Francisco, currently teaching Live Performance, Mixing/Mastering and Advanced Production and Workflow. He has been a live performer, producer and DJ in the Bay Area for 15 years, performing at major festivals and venues alike in Psytrance, Electro/Breaks and Deep House formats.

Currently active in musical groups Mountain Of Youth, Glitterfinger, Dissølv and many others as a producer, mixer or performer, Liam is very busy working with independent artists to help bring their visions to life.
