Dance Festival 2010
In a collage of dance as colorful as the changing fall foliage, area studios are uniting to give the community "Dance Festival 2010". Nestled in the shadow of the blue ridge mountains, audiences will adore dancers of all ages performing a mixed repertoire of ballet, clogging, jazz and tapp. The Dance Festival is hosted by the Southwest Virginia Ballet, a regional, preprofessional, youth ballet company recognized for their annual holiday production of The Nutcracker and classical performances of Cinderella, Graduation Ball, Paquita and Swan Lake. This first time event begins the performing arts season with an aura of collaboration and friendship as the alliance of dance studio owners and parents work side by side to provide a new stage experience for talented young dancers and bring attention to the popularity of and passion for dance in the Roanoke Valley. Dance studios participating in the festival include: Dance Centre of Southwest Virginia, Francesca Lacy's School of Dance, Miss Mona's School of Dance, Patti Sturgill School of Dance, Roanoke Ballet Theater, Rockbridge Ballet, Shenandoah Ballet Academy, Southwest Virginia Ballet Company, and Valley Dance Productions. Parents that want to learn more about dance opportunities in the region can see varying age groups and dance styles and meet the studio owners and artistic directors. This event is part of the City of Roanoke's annual Arts Festival, Blue Ridge Parkway 75th Anniversary events, Minds Wide Open and the 4040 Arts Events promoted by the Arts Council of the Blue Ridge. Sponsored in part by: The Virginia Commission for the Arts; Virginia Tourism Commission; and City of Roanoke. For more information visit www.svballet.org
