Journey to the East - a variety show fundraiser

Chinese Progressive Association's youth program, Youth MOJO, is hosting a variety show fundraiser "Journey to the East" on July 22nd at 7:30pm at the Chinese Cultural Center. Journey to the East will feature performances from the Magic of Chin-Chin, Cynthia Lin, FMC Dance Crew, Power Struggle, our own youth performers, and much more.

Journey to the East is a fundraiser to support our youth leaders on an educational exposure trip to China at the end of this month. This trip will help our leaders better understand and relate their experience working with the Chinese immigrant community in San Francisco to working class Chinese struggles in Hong Kong and mainland China.

From Detroit to Beijing... Coming back from the US Social Forum in Detroit, we recognize that the issues our communities face are global. As the recent Foxconn scandal has shown, China plays an important role in determining how low-wage workers across the globe will be treated. While American corporations like Apple make billions in profit each year, workers in the US and in China are paying with their blood, sweat, and tears. We know that this exposure trip will be the first step of many in understanding worker, tenant, and environmental issues in China and the first step to build a bridge and true international solidarity with our brothers and sisters in China!
