Empower Her World 2015
International Clothing Line and Fashion Show Coming to Downtown Fort Wayne
Creative Women of the World Hosts "Empower Her World" Fundraising Event
On April 15, 2015 Creative Women of the World (CWOW) will be hosting Empower Her World: A Celebration of Fashion and Culture. In addition to hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, attendees will be treated to a visual celebration of international fashion, including runway presentations of global special occasion wear, local design competition finalists, and the introduction of a new, international spring line. Attendees will be able to purchase items from the spring line at auction and will be able to purchase other international goods from the "Global Marketplace."
The fundraising event will begin at 6:00 in the Arts Lab at 300 East Main St. in downtown Fort Wayne. The event is designed to bring awareness to the work that CWOW does to empower women both locally and abroad.
While many may know CWOW as the fair trade boutique located next to JK O'Donell's, CWOW is also a women's advocacy group and training organization, working to help women create sustainable businesses. Many of these women come from horrific circumstances and extreme poverty. They have often endured medical issues like HIV and long histories of abuse, but through business education, they are able to create new opportunities for themselves and their families.
As CWOW's Executive Director, Lorelei Verlee explains, "When a woman who has been trafficked is given an opportunity to create something of her own and no longer has to depend on anyone else, the light from her smile literally shines!" As Verlee and her associates get to know these women on a personal level, she says, "We learn their names. We come to know and care about their children, and we see them making a difference in their communities through the power of their own creativity and sense of purpose."
CWOW is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring creative business and marketing solutions for women around the world seeking to rise out of extreme poverty, human trafficking and disasters. CWOW has directly helped over 150 women in ten countries, which has led to increased opportunities for their families and communities.
