American Theater Company "Making History Together" 30th Anniversary Season
American Theater Company invites you to ATC's annual Gala "Making History Together" to celebrate our 30th anniversary season. On Friday April 10, 2015, more than 200 of Chicagoland's arts enthusiasts will gather at the InterContinental Hotel for an evening of cocktails, cuisine, and live and silent auctions. Proceeds from the gala will ensure that ATC continues to produce outstanding American plays, develop original works, create outreach programs for children and adults, and ask the question "What does it mean to be an American?"
ATC has distinguished itself as an innovative, important voice in new American works. Since 2010, the company has developed and produced four consecutive World Premiere plays addressing urgent American issues which immediately garnered national acclaim and attention: Welcome To Arroyo's (went on to San Diego's Old Globe Theatre), The Big Meal (New York Premiere: Playwrights Horizons), Disgraced (won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and now playing on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre) and this season's smash hit The Humans (commissioned to go to New York's Roundabout Theater in the fall of 2015.) ATC's production of columbinus, a documentary play surrounding the tragic shootings at Columbine High School, took ATC on its first tour to Boston's prestigious presenting house, ArtsEmerson.
ATC's proudest achievements include its renowned education programs. Conceived and launched seven years ago, these have yielded committed, intimate relationships with principals, teachers, aldermen and thousands of Chicago Public High School students from six low-income CPS High Schools across the city. ATC provides its unique education programs at no cost to students, parents or teachers. Programming is designed to introduce theater to 9th grade students inside the classroom (American Mosaic), lay the foundations for in-depth exposure outside the classroom in the 10th grade (Bridge), and bring exceptional students into the professional sphere through intense mentorship in their junior and senior years (Youth Ensemble). All of the students from our graduating Youth Ensemble classes have matriculated to colleges.
