The Portland Blind Cafe - A Community Awareness Concert and Dinner in the Dark!
Tabor Space at Mt Tabor Presbyterian Church Portland, OR
The Portland Blind Cafe, a mind bending/heart opening experience where the audience will dine and enjoy a concert in the pitch dark! All the waiters will be blind. There will be a delicious gluten-free vegetarian/vegan meal prepared to delight your senses. Your heart and mind will be opened as you discuss issues related to visual impairment, celebrate and explore spacial awareness, indulge in unencumbered music listening (without distraction of visual conditioning, cell phones etc.), build community, make new friends and advocate for a better life for the blind and visually impaired community...all with your waiters and fellow patronage in the dark.
Rosh will deliver an outstanding concert with his band, 'Rosh & One Eye Glass Broken'. A percentage of the proceeds from this event will be donated to support a local organization PAWS Pups At Work For Sight, that raises puppies to become guide dogs for the blind.
Note: Welcome to the Portland Blind Cafe. We are excited you will be attending.
To make this a great event for everyone here are some ground rules...
-You Must Plan To Arrive Early To Get Parking and Be On Time for Seating.
-This is an ON TIME event. Please Arrive at 7PM ready to have an amazing time!
-There will be NO LATE SEATING!
-After 7:30pm you will NOT be seated!
-There will be no Refunds.
-Please leave your cells phones, watches, purses, coats... in the car when you arrive at the parking lot.
-Otherwise personal items that must come into the dark with you please make sure they are under your seats so our blind hosts do not trip on them.
-We have two golden rules:
Rule 1: Don't open your cell phones or watches of any kind of light in the dark during our event. If you do, we will ask you to leave as it ruins the experience for everyone and we work so hard to create a such unique dark space. Please respect this request!
Golden Rule 2: When you hear the Tibetan Sing Bowl ring, it is time for you to be absolutely SILENT! Our musicians, speakers, waiters and performers have NO amplification, we appreciate it when you are absolutely SILENT when we are speaking or performing. BUT, the rest of the time, please chat away, connect with your friends, laugh, explore being silent by yourself while everyone else is talking, try to guess what size/shape your table is, or the size of the room!
-You will be asked to go to the bathroom before you enter into the dark, but our wonderful loving waiters can also take you to the bathroom if needed during the event.
-If at anytime you are so uncomfortable that you feel you need to leave the event, just ask your waiter and they will help you out. :)
-AND one last thing......have an amazing time, be open, grow, connect with your friends and your waiter.
