August First Saturday @ SMNHC
The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center (SMNHC), the Museumâs offsite environmental education facility, will be open to the public on selected dates for hiking, birding, geocaching, and general outdoor enjoyment. Each month includes a special educational program beginning at 10:00 a.m. Gates are open from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.
The August 7th program is "Fire Ecology." Fire is a crucial part of a mountain ecosystem that promotes biodiversity and forest health. Learn what the SMNHC has done to bring the tree population to a healthy level. .
