Developing your Documentary Project for ITVS:Workshop and Pitch Session
Developing your Documentary Project for ITVS:
Workshop and Pitch Session.  Join Documentary Northwest for this all day event with Richard Saiz, Senior Programming Manager for ITVS. During the morning Saiz will provide case studies, video samples, and valuable handouts to walk you through the basic steps towards making your project more competitive with this organization.  In the afternoon, there will be an informal pitch session where attendees will get an opportunity to watch as twelve people present their proposals and Saiz provides feedback. As the single biggest funder of independent documentaries on television, the Independent Television Service (ITVS) has become indispensable for filmmakers seeking major funding for their projects. This all day event is a rare opportunity for independent producers to meet Richard and grasp the essential concepts and principles of how to make your documentary more competitive when applying for ITVS funds.

When: July 10, 9am to 5pm (followed by a reception in West Seattle.)
Where: Youngstown Cultural Art Center, Thelma Dewitty Theater
4408 Delridge Way SW, Seattle, WA 98106.

Lunch will be provided. After the workshop we will have a happy hour reception (plenty of food and drink) for everyone at the nearby home of Ellen and Doug Frick.  We'll give location information and arrange carpools if needed at the workshop.

Tickets:  Thanks to generous donations by ITVS and the former NDA, tickets are only $20, $15 for students.

Driving Directions: http://www.youngstownarts.org/contact_us/driving_directions.

Proposals:
We are now accepting proposals to present during the afternoon informal pitch.

Each pitch will be allocated 15 minutes total:  5 minutes for the presentation and 10 minutes for Richard's feedback. You may allocate your 5 minutes however you choose.   Please note that pitching at the workshop is not a substitute for the open call application to ITVS.  Be sure and visit the ITVS site to learn about the process. We expect that you'll be familiar with the mechanics of the process before your pitch, as this saves time and allows everyone to focus on content rather than process.

Proposals should consist of a synopsis and treatment (no more than 2 pages total) and a proposed budget.  If you have it, include a DVD of video no longer than ten minutes in length.  This can be anything you want to show: e.g. an edited preview trailer, a string of selects or part of a rough cut.

Proposals are due by June 25 and should include your email and phone number. Mail your proposal to:
Documentary Northwest.
1010 SW Elmgrove St.
Seattle, WA 98106

Those accepted to pitch will be notified by e-mail by July 3rd.
