Butchlalis de Panochtitlan (BdP)
La Pena Cultural Center Berkeley, CA
Theater & Comedy skits from LA with Butchlalis de Panochtitlan (BdP), a sketch-driven performance/ installation/video ensemble that maps Los Angeles on racialized female masculine bodies, as both characters & caricatures. The BdP are not drag kings, but butch dykes/transgender butches/gender queer speaking subjects that are not trying to pass as men; instead, the BdP explores the liminal space of queer boi-dom and the identities and the neighborhoods we claim and are claimed by. Sketches include gestures towards Working Class Butch Latina/o Identities (City Terrace); Interracial Desire (Montebello): Family Guilt-Latino Queerness (East Los Angeles); Bar Culture/Softball Culture (El Sereno); Gentrification (Silverlake); Class/Classism (all of LA Metro).
Note: La Pena is wheelchair accessible.
