CALGreen
AIA Central Valley has invited Dave Wells, Executive Director of the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC), to share with the Chapter:

- how the code was developed
- how it is beneficial to architects
- the code's key provisions and organization
(including how / why residential and commercial are separated)
- how you can use CAL Green to meet the minimum standard
 for LEED certification
- answers to your questions!

The presentation is designed to be an overview of the new code and provides attendees with the opportunity to clarify its provisions with the agency responsible for administering it.  A more in-depth training class is in the works.

About the presenter:

Dave Walls was appointed Executive Director of the California Building Standards Commission in May of 2006. Prior to his CBSC appointment, Walls served as an administrator with the Division of Codes and Standards for the California Department of Housing and Community Development from 2001 to 2006.

A California licensed general contractor, Walls was formerly an official in the building inspection division for the County of Sutter from 1995 to 2001, and for the City of Galt from 1992 to 1995. During his tenure with the City of Galt he orchestrated the rewriting of the disability access building standards for residential occupancies in California and developed the ADA transition plan for the city.

Walls has recently been appointed acting Director for the new California Commission on Disability Access.  He also serves as a member of the California Seismic Safety Commission, the Hospital Building Safety Board, and the Sustainable Building Technology Committee.
