Farallon Quintet Debuts in Sonoma
The Sonoma Classical Music Society announces the first concert of its 2015 winter/spring season: the Sonoma debut of the Farallon Quintet, a dynamic Bay area ensemble and the only professional chamber music quintet focused exclusively on the clarinet quintet -- string quartet plus clarinet -- repertoire.  The concert will be Sunday, January 18, 2015, at 3:00 pm at Vintage House Sonoma, 264 First Street East, Sonoma.  Tickets will be $35 for adults, $30 for Sonoma Classical Music Society members, and $10 for students.  They can be purchased from Readers' Books, Pharmaca, at the Society's website, www.sonomaclassical.org, and at the door.

At the concert, the Farallon Quintet will perform Mozart's "Allegro in Bb for Clarinet, 2 violins, viola, and cello, KAhn 91 (516C) (Quintet Fragment);" Alexander Glazunov's "Oriental Reverie;" the contemporary composer Durwynne Hsieh's "Clarinet Quintet,"
a work commissioned by the Farallon Quintet; Alexander Krein's "Three Sketches on Hebrew Themes, Op. 12;" and Carl Maria Von Weber's great "Clarinet Quintet in Bb Major, Op. 34."
The Farallon Quintet is made up of leading Bay Area musicians -- Natalie Parker, Clarinet, the current principal clarinet of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra; Dan Flanagan, violin, current Concertmaster of the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera; Matthew Oshida, violin, who has performed with orchestras throughout the country and the Bay area; Elizabeth Prior, viola, the principal violist with the Santa Rosa Symphony,  and Johan Kim, cello, associate principal cellist of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.

The ensemble was founded in the summer of 2012 and received a grant from San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music to record and release its debut album and was recently awarded a Barlow Grant to commission young composer Chad Cannon's first Clarinet Quintet.  The group's 2014-15 season will include over 20 performances throughout Northern California and sextet collaborations with pianists Jon Nakamatsu and Tanya Gabrielian.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear an exciting new Bay Group in a beautiful and challenging repertoire, including the great Weber Clarinet Quintet.  See you there!

The next concert in the Sonoma Classical Music Society's 2015 season will be Sunday, February 22, 2015, when an augmented Musica Pacifica returns to Sonoma to perform, among other works, Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concerto's #4 and #5!
