CUBAN BALLET & DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA
The Blankenship Ballet Company's "CUBAN BALLET & DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA" at 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2010 features luminous World Class Cuban Ballet Dancers performing in the magnificent Palm Court located at Blankenship Ballet's new home on "Gallery Row" at the legendary Alexandria Hotel on in the "historic core" of downtown Los Angeles, California.

THE CONCEPT

Come experience the glory of Cuban Ballet & Dance "up close and personal" in a grand arts venue in which you can observe Blankenship Ballet's "world class dancers" perform beautiful ballet and other forms of dance in an "in-the-round" performance where  the dancers are "close enough to touch".

The Blankenship Ballet Company is evolving its wildly successful and "standing room only" Cuban Ballet & Dance series by creating a new Cuban Ballet & Dance Extravaganza Series commencing at 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2010 in the magnificent Palm Court located at Blankenship Ballet's new home on "Gallery Row" at the legendary Alexandria Hotel in the "historic core" of downtown Los Angeles.

The Blankenship Ballet Company is continuing its goal of revitalizing eclectic and historic buildings by transforming them into glorious arts venues in which "world class" Cuban Dancers amplify the exhibition of the arts by seeking to eliminate what the late composer Richard Wagner labeled the "Mystic Gulf" between the audience and the dancers.

Such an artistic goal has been accomplished to the delight of thousands of spectators who have been inspired by Blankenship Ballet's presentation of World Class Dancers performing Classical Ballet and Cuban Ballet and other forms of dance in eclectic intimate venues that enable the audience to connect and feel the powerful evocative energy of the ballet arts.

ABOUT THE VENUE:  PALM COURT AT THE ALEXANDRIA HOTEL

The Palm Court is a ballroom at the Alexandria Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, California, which in its heyday from 1911 to 1922, was the scene of speeches by U.S. Presidents William Howard Taft and Woodrow Wilson and Gen. John J. Pershing.  Palm Court at Alexandria was the place where Paul Whiteman, later known as the "Jazz King," got his start as a bandleader in 1919, where Rudolph Valentino danced with movie starlets and where Hollywood held its most significant balls during the early days of the motion picture business.

Known for its history and its stained-glass Tiffany skylight, Palm Court was once labeled by the noted Los Angeles Times Columnist Jack Smith as a "room of excellent proportions, and, softly lighted by its lovely oval skylight,....surely the most beautiful room in Los Angeles." Palm Court was designated as a City of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (HCM#80) in 1971.

In 2005, the Los Angeles Times described the Palm Court:

"Then there are the Alexandria's architectural gems -- the magnificent Palm Court ballroom with its stained-glass Tiffany skylight, for example -- that made it the most luxurious hotel of its era. It was the film industry's first home in the early 1900s, a place where dozens of studios maintained offices, where Charlie Chaplin and friends formed United Artists, where the lobby bustled with so many deal makers that a Persian rug there was deemed the 'million-dollar carpet.'"
