Essential Butoh: Practica
Chicago Cultural Center Chicago, IL
Hedwig Dances in cooperation with blushing poppies productions presents The Essential Butoh: Practica, a six-week class led by Nicole LeGette that combines fundamental components of butoh training into a practice that enhances performance. Butoh is a provocative, rigorous, expressive form of dance theater that originated in 1959 Japan. The class allows time to explore and embody butoh training along with observation and feedback/guidance from Nicole and fellow students.
The class takes place on Mondays, April 19 to May 24 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at the Chicago Cultural Center, 1st Floor Dance Studio, 78 E. Washington (at Randolph).
Nicole LeGette, a maverick of Chicago's dance and performance art scene, is the only Chicago artist dedicated to performing, presenting, and teaching butoh. Since 2000, Nicole has trained with master butoh artists in Japan, Mexico, Canada, and across the US.
