51 BIRCH STREET
Directed by Doug Block.
US, 2006, 88 min., English.

Filmmaker Doug Block had every reason to believe that his parents' 54-year marriage was a good one. But after his mother dies, he is shocked when his father announces that he's marrying "Kitty," his secretary of forty years ago, and moving to Florida. Hailed as one of the best films of 2006 by A.O. Scott from The New York Times, Block's deeply human film offers a reflection of middle class Jewish family life during the 1960s and 70s. He uses candid family interviews, home movies, and even his mother's diary entries to excavate the mystery of his parents' marriage and leaves us with the question: Do we really want to know our parents?

Notes
In person: Ellen Block, the filmmaker's sister featured in the film.

Advance ticketing for this screening is sold out.  Please note that there is an EXCELLENT chance that we can seat you with standby tickets for "sold out" shows. We reserve seats at each screening for all-festival passholders and many do not show up for all films. Standby ticketing begins 15 mins prior to showtime and we seat standby patrons on a first come, first served basis. We suggest that you come to the theater 30 mins in advance of the screening to line up for standby seating.
