Intro to Green Roofing
At this point, chances are good you've heard of a green roof.... maybe you've even seen one! If not, we can certainly fix that with a farm tour of Brooklyn Grange when summer rolls around. But more on that later.
In the meantime, let's talk about these green roofs that are popping up all around the globe and slowly but surely covering our cities. What's the big idea?
Sure they're gorgeous, and that's probably reason enough, but why else have a green roof? Are there actual measurable benefits to the building, the city, the environment? Can you put one anywhere, any time? How much do those things cost? And what's underneath those rooftop plants anyhow?
Gwen Schantz, COO of Brooklyn Grange, heads up our Design and Installation department and will go through the ins and outs of green roofing in NYC and beyond. She'll cover all the benefits, challenges, and options available for those rooftop oases and share Brooklyn Grange's experience greenroofing our city.
By the end of this workshop you'll have a sense of what it takes to green roof a space, large or small!! Who knows, by next summer you could have a green, serene rooftop of your very own.
This program takes place at BLDG 92 the Brooklyn Navy Yard's unique exhibition and visitor center. Come early to experience the past, present and future of the Yard through BLDG 92's interactive exhibits. FREE admission, Wed-Sun, 12-6pm.
