Hamlet
"Hamlet," featuring an all-female cast is the inaugural production of GAN-e-meed Theatre Project, founded to advance the roll of women in theatre. Set in a world not unlike our own, this ghost story of revenge, heartache and woe is woven in to today's technology and yesterday's passion: a contemporary reinterpretation of a classic epic. "Hamlet" will be presented in the intimate cafe space at the Center for Arts at the Armory in Somerville. Some performances are followed by a free talk back with the cast and guest speakers. "Hamlet" arrives in Somerville on May 21 after an opening run in Lowell and runs through the end of the month. Group discounts are available. Some performances are followed by a free talk back with the cast and guest speakers. GAN--meed Theatre Project was founded in 2009 to advance the role of women in theatre: the experienced and novice, young and old, artist and leader. To accomplish this, their seasons are created from shows proposed by female artists (actress, stage manager, designer, playwright, or director), and they promote the study of and visibility of gender bias within the theatre community. GAN-e-meed Theatre Project hopes to be the catalyst to establishing gender equity in New England theatre. Follow along backstage as the production prepares for opening at findinghamlet.wordpress.com
