Teen Media Academy
Latinitas will host a Teen Media Academy during Spring Break from March 15-19 with the goal of inspiring and training girls on how to build confidence and express themselves creatively through multimedia journalism. Latinitas, a nonprofit focused on empowering girls through media, is recruiting for local high school girls interested in careers in the media industry. This intensive week-long academy will give girls an opportunity to participate in hands-on media enrichment workshops to imagine themselves as future newspaper reporters, web editors, news anchors, radio DJs or photojournalists. Participants will meet with media professionals and hear from college students majoring in communication. Professional media producers will train girls on how to use their experiences and digital technology to create their own media such as magazines, blogs, podcasts, short films and photo essays. Girls in grades 9th through 12th are invited to participate in this event. Space is limited, so registration is required. The application fee is $25.
