Songs for a New World
Eureka Theatre San Francisco, CA
Composer Jason Robert Brown's first produced show will be presented by Ray of Light Theatre at the Eureka Theatre in beautiful downtown San Francisco from May 11-27, 2007.
The show sits on the boundary between musical and song cycle: it is a series of songs with (unlike a musical) no plot or characters that continue from song to song, but the songs and production themselves are highly theatrical and character-driven.
Since its debut at the WPA Theater in October 1995, the show has been produced hundreds of times all over the world, and its centerpiece song, "Stars and the Moon" has been recorded by countless wonderful singers including Audra McDonald, Karen Akers and Betty Buckley.
The Hollywood Reporter had this to say about S4ANW:
"Anyone interested in glimpsing the future of the American musical theater would do well to catch this revue... The songs- some of them close to miniature plays- capture a wide variety of moods, from sweetly contemplative to sturdily inspirational... These are songs to pierce the heart and raise the rafters."
Note: Premium Seating: A small section of the theater, chosen by the producers as the ideal location to view the production, is reserved for premium ticket holders. No need to arrive early to hunt down a general admission seat---you will have your choice of any seat in a pre-marked premium row when you arrive to the theater.
