2010 Fruit Fly
Bottletree Cafe Birmingham, AL
A favorite of the film festival circuit, Fruit Fly is an infectious and charming San Francisco songfest. Bethesda (the lovely L.A. Renigen) is a Filipina performance artist who arrives in the city and moves into a Mission District artistsâ commune. There, she is welcomed into a world of colorful characters.
Rent control, public transit, one-night stands and other heartbreakingly familiar San Francisco main-stays are celebrated in a lyrical chorus of warm and clever wit. Lavishly brimming with whimsical choreography and catchy hooks that linger long after the credits have rolled, Fruit Fly reminds us all that living in the fair city of San Francisco can make you feel like breaking out into song.
