Mongol Rally Movie Fundraiser for Mercy Corps
One stand-up comic, no planning, bugger all money, 10,000 miles, no car... Adventurism at its very best! Every summer hundreds of brave teams thunder over mountain ranges and across open steppe in pursuit of glorious mayhem. Now you can enjoy the epic tale of stand up comic Buddy taking the legendary rally to a whole new level of stupidity. With no car and no lift arranged out of London, he hitchhikes, crawls, begs and scrapes his way to Mongolia entertaining the teams and locals all the way.
The Mongol Rally is an annual charity event in which participants drive 8,000-10,000 miles from London to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The route taken is not set in stone. Teams are on their own with no support and cars are required to be no larger than a 1.2 liter engine. That's smaller than a Geo Metro! The Mongol Rally is an amazing adventure for an amazing cause.
Money raised from the 2010 Mongol Rally will fully fund various projects across rural aimags (districts) in Mongolia. These projects strive to improve the lives of many rural communities and vulnerable groups that currently live in harsh conditions and face a constant struggle to survive. These projects range from setting up schools, building children's playgrounds, establishing support centers to try and combat alcohol abuse amongst youth, and providing regular home care training sessions for families who are living with a member who has a disability.
"Just a Steppe Away" is a team of three friends from Seattle taking part in the Rally in July 2010. Join us for a movie night, watch the hilarious Mongol Rally documentary, and find out just how crazy this trip is going to be!
Bring your extra cash as we'll be accepting trip donations and Mercy Corp will be in attendance to accept charity donations and discuss the Mongolian charity programs directly aided by this fundraiser.
