Burlesque Millinery with Vienna La Rouge
Want to channel Betty Grable or Gypsy Rose Lee? Make your own 1940s style hat for the burlesque stage. In this workshop, Vienna will teach you to make what was known as the "Doll" or "Tilt" hat. This style was one of the most popular hats worn during the 1940s, both on and off silver screens and burlesque stages. It's an easy design that can be decorated any way you wish to match your costume, and you won't need a sewing machine.

Materials you'll need: -Heavy felt for the base, or medium weight buckram to cover with fabric of your choice -1 yard of Millinery wire (available at Display & Costume Supply, by the yard or bulk) -2 packages of 1/2" wide double fold bias binding in any color you wish to match your hat (available at any fabric store) -Glue (Hot glue gun or a fast drying craft glue) -Needle and thread -Hair combs -Decoration for your hat: You can use everything from ribbon to fake fruit! Bring ostrich plumes, rhinestones, netting, flowers, and whatever you want to sport on your chapeau. The possibilities are endless.
