Permanent Collection
Karamu House, Inc. Cleveland, OH
"Permanent Collection" explores racial politics within the art world. An Impressionistic painting or an African mask, which holds more artistic value? This thought provoking drama was inspired by the true controversies surrounding Philadelphia's acclaimed Barnes Foundation. In the play, new museum director, Sterling North, an African American, discovers African American art tucked away in storage at Morris Foundation and challenges the museum to display them beside European art.
