An American Tract
Theatre Theater Los Angeles, CA
Barbara White Morgan's production takes place in Park Circle, a Mythical Southern California Suburb, during the mid-80's. Ann Jackson is a nurse's assistant in a convalescent home. There she meets Bill Clifton; a wealthy benefactor who takes a liking to her but has empathy for her downward spiral in the inner-city. She wants a better life for her sons and Clifton sees a way out for her. He wills her a house free and clear but it's in a all-white neighborhood.
So Jackson faces a community that doesn't want her, sons that want her to move back to the inner city. And a boyfriend that says she's grazy to work two and three jobs to meet obligations just to be around white people.
