On the Relation of Analytical Psychology to Poetry

8236 SE 24th Street
Mercer Island, WA

Given as a lecture in 1922 to the Society for German Language and Literature, Jung sharply contrasts his own approach to art with the "corrosive reduction" of a Freudian approach. Jung points out that "a work of art is not a disease."  Jung's presents in this essay many key terms of Analytical Psychology a concise form: archetype, collective unconscious, personal unconscious, complex, symbol and participation mystique. and gives layman-like definitions of the operation of complexes in the creative process.

This class will be 3 evenings of outloud reading of poetry, visual presentations and film. Reading the essay beforehand is highly reccomended.
