 Stranded somewhere between the middle ages, 1930's Shanghai show tunes, 60's French pop, witty, wicked Weimar and post-punk thrash, the international singing sensation Meow Meow has prowled, preened, stunned and screamed her way from Paris to Shanghai. The "annihilatory" exotica performance artist returns to Portland for one night only to perform her hit show, Beyond Glamour: The Absinthe Tour, with special guest accompanist, Pink Martini bandleader Thomas Lauderdale. Two performances at 8pm and 10:30pm.
Meow Meow's spiralling journey of obsessional love songs, minor multimedia, tired old tricks and gorgeous suicide ditties was the talk of PICA's TBA 2004 Festival. She was invited back in 2005 for a kamikaze Meow Meow marathon: a headlining performance, a Works extravaganza with Lauderdale, and a climactic midnight show at Mary's Club. Meow and Lauderdale jet off to Sydney next month to perform Beyond Glamour at the Sydney Opera House during Mardi Gras.
