FIRST FRIDAY Music Series @ Galeria West with LOS IGLESIAS
Since the inaugural concert in the summer of 2009 hundreds of music lovers have enjoyed the new FIRST FRIDAY Music Series, presented by TEATRO Si at the intimate Galeria West Art Gallery in downtown Westfield, NJ. This once a month live concert event continues to bring to the area a unique opportunity to enjoy a diversity of music genres as performed by a select series of renowned artists.
The FIRST FRIDAY events continue on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 7pm as LOS IGLESIAS bring to you the spirit of Paraguay.  The Los Iglesias music duo is comprised of guitarist and vocalist Mario Iglesias and harpist Silvio Solis. They bring to the stage the essence of Paraguay and beyond through their interpretations of the mesmerizing rhythms that originate in ths South American region. Mario Iglesias was born in Caraguatay, Paraguay. At age 6 his father, a professional guitarist and composer, taught him to sing and play guitar. At age 12, Mario made his televison debut on channel 9 in Asuncion, Paraguay. He performed on radio shows and folklore festivals and in 1982 he travled to Buenos Aires to tour the night club circuit of the Argentinean capital. From 1983 to 1988, Mario toured in Brazil, performing at several renowned venues. In 1989, he traveled to Canada, performing at various venues throughout Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec. In the United States he performed in New York City at Lincoln Center, Rockefeller Center and at the United Nations. Mario has also performed at various night clubs, on the NBC/Telemundo Channel 47 (WNJU) television network, at Kean University and at Giants Stadium in New Jersey for the Hispanic Heritage Festival. In 2007 he returned to Paraguay for a performance tour with harpist Victor Noguera and under the stage name Dos de America, recorded an album titled Folklore Latino Americano. Currently, Mario resides in New York City. This will be his third performance with TEATRO Si.
Silvio Solis was born in Paraguay, studied music composition and harmony in Brazil and has performed all over the world. He began his musical career at the age of 10 years. After winning many music competitions and a variety of prestigious awards, Silvio had his first professional engagement at the age of 15. Currently he is based and performs in New York City. He has traveled to several major cities worldwide performing with Inter-Continental Hotels in San Diego, Paris, Frankfurt, London and Rio de Janiero. Silvio has performed at Caesar's Palace in Las vegas with the Giovanni Maradi Orchestra and has also performed at several grand theaters in the United States. Mr. Solis' repertoire is varied, including a blend of popular and international themes along with a light classical style. Since his first recording in 1975, he has recorded extensively including; "Musica Sacra do Brazil", "Feliz Navidad", a holiday album, "Ensueo Guarani", and "Frontier", his latest album recording in the United States. Mr. Solis is a master teacher, offering a vintage blend of classical, easy listening, popular and international themes. In addition to performing, teaching and recording he is an expert artisan who crafts unique handmade high quality harps. Mr Solis performs on a custom made South American harp.
We hope you will join us often during the year to celebrate the arts in a unique setting. We recommend that you consider enjoying a fine meal before or after the concert at one of the fine eateries in quaint downtown Westfield and the surrounding area. Most are located within a short walk from the gallery. Proceeds from each event benefit theatrical programming efforts at TEATRO Si, a 501(c)3 New Jersey non-profit corporation.
