Long Day's Journey Into Night
Long Day's Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill takes place in the Tyrone family's summer home. The family members try to go about their day, working outside and preparing for meals, drinking bourbon and forgetting the past, but are confronted with dark issues at every turn. Edmund, the youngest, is sick with consumption, and Jamie, the eldest son, is unable to support himself or be loved. James Tyrone, father and husband, has spent a lifetime providing for his family, with little to show for it, as all the material things he has acquired mean nothing to his family. He is often found complaining about all of the ingratitude he receives. He loves his wife, Mary, but sees her slip into the darkness of addiction, and he himself becomes undone by her misery. The only sign of light in this play comes from the presence of Cathi, the Tyrone's summer help, a young and beautiful girl, innocent and untouched by the play's natural decay. Hard Work Productions modernizes O'Neill's most cherished play and presents the Tyrones with sincere casualty. The Tyrone's inability to escape their issues, is the same inability we all have to escape a dark past or an unpromising future. There are stories that cannot be changed and these are the stories that drive us to drink.
Featuring Nikki Chawla, William Sours, Chris Austin, Jon Gennari & Mickele Hogan.
