It's already time for Cinema Zone #2. On thursday nights SF IndieFest presents a double feature movie night at Konservatory a groovy SOMA loft space with a comfy speakeasy vibe.

Each night doors will open at 7p, with films starting around 8p and 10p.

CINEMA ZONE #2: FREAKS (JESUS & SPEED)
Thursday, October 30

Halloween is great and all, but while the normies gorge themselves on slasher flicks and sexy zombie costumes, we know what's truly scary out there: bad trips and Evangelical Christianity.  And what makes those two things even worse?  Confined spaces.

8p HELL HOUSE
In suburban Dallas, a group of normal-looking community members gather to plan an annual haunted house.  However, make no mistake  although ostensibly upstanding school teachers and firefighters, these adults are deranged and deluded, worshipping at the blood-stained altar of an imaginary woodworker named Jesus Christ.  Once a year, these suburban extremists  insidiously devise a bigger and better mousetrap to drop on unexpecting unbelievers: a haunted house that features REAL LIFE horrors like ABORTION, HOMOSEXUALITY, DRUG USE and RAVE CULTURE!  Lensed in luminous Super 16mm and scored by the Kadane brothers (of Bedhead "fame"), George Ratliff's masterpiece in documentary filmmaking is by turns laugh out loud funny and cringe-inducingly sad and generally serves as proof positive that there is no god, because no intelligent designer would make people so dumb.  Seriously though, one of the best documentaries of the 21st century and sickeningly underseen!  Dir: George Ratliff.  2001.  85 mins.

10p COOKERS
"Surely, it's one of the most aggressively, pointlessly repugnant of pictures."  Variety
Obviously we don't agree with the review quoted above. If you like your hip and edgy thrillers "straight-up, no chaser", we've found what you've been looking for. Already notorious in industry circles COOKERS is a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience. Dorena, a long-time crystal methamphetamine 'Cooker', holes up with Hector, her manic and tweaked-out partner with a large amount of pharmaceutical quality base stolen from a biker gang. They head out to an abandoned (and little do they know  haunted) old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, and hook up with Hector's childhood friend Merle. They set up the lab, test the drugs and embark on a full-tilt run towards destruction. Their paranoia and distrust come to a head, but the motivating factor remains  slowly cooking away in the upstairs bedroom. Is the evil that awaits them outside worse than what lurks within? Or is it all in their heads, just a paranoid side effect of the drugs and a week without sleep? You will want to take a long shower after you see this one. -Bruce Fletcher, (SF IndieFest 2001)Dir: Dan Mintz, 2001, 99 mins.
