CINEMA ZONE #1: MIGHTY MARVEL MISFIRES, MISFITS + MISTAKES
Thursday, October 23

Summer blockbuster season is over, leaves are falling from the trees, and that autumnal wistfulness settles in the air like fog over the Golden Gate Bridge.  Although they are pretty darned unstoppable now, there was a time where Marvel Comics were desperate for a hit, any sort of hit, and would sign off on basically anything.  Tonight we're taking a look at two team-ups between Marvel and similarly hit-hungry entities, CBS Television and Roger Corman.

9p
THE TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK

Itinerant bedraggled do-gooder David Banner (yes, DAVID Banner) ambles into pre-Giuliani Manhattan and is promptly framed for a brutal subway attack.  Stuck in jail and penniless, his case looks hopeless  that is, until blind lawyer Matt Murdock agrees to take up the case.  Soon, this charmingly crappy iteration of Daredevil (his kitchenette-sized crime lab is jaw-dropping) joins forces with the Incredible Hulk to take down a criminal syndicate that leads all the way to the top crime boss in all of New York City  the untouchable Kingpin (portrayed by Jonathan Rhys-Davies!!!).  Intended as a backdoor pilot to an ongoing Daredevil CBS TV series (this DID air in the Summer of Batman, after all), THE TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK has more fun per minute than a Tilt-A-Whirl with a drunkard at the helm!  Starring Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno, Rex Smith and Jonathan Rhys-Davies.  Dir: Bill Bixby.  1989.  100 mins.

11p
THE FANTASTIC FOUR

With three months left on a contract option, a fly-by-night German financier teamed with the incomparable and incorrigible Roger Corman to produce a motion picture that was meant less for public consumption and more as a shrewd business move.  No one told the cast and crew that, though, and they poured their ample heart and limited resources to a really nifty flick that is a trillion times more fun and entertaining than those limp dick Chiklis-assisted time wasters.  You WILL believe a man can wear a Styrofoam suit of spray painted rocks when the clock strikes CLOBBER!  Starring Alex Hyde White, Rebecca Staab, Jay Underwood, Michael Bailey Smith and  Joseph Culp as Dr. Doom.  Dir: Oley Sassone.  1994.  89 mins.

PLUS A MEGA-MIX INCLUDING THE SORCERER SUPREME, THE FIRST AVENGER,  MECHA SPIDER-MAN, GENERATION X IN GENERATION X, HASSELHOFF FURY AND MORE!!!

Double feature for just ten bucks!
