Fresh and Fermented: Firefly Kitchens takes over The VUDE kitchen and is creating one the most exciting dinners to date!
Fermentation is magic.  Without it, we would not have many of my favorite things:  yogurt, coffee, sourdough bread and of course WINE!  And without wine, we would have no Hand of God.  And without Hand of God we would not have The VUDE!

So let's celebrate fermentation with one of Seattle's most nutritious and delicious food startups, Firefly Kitchens. They're making fermentation sexy with some amazing krauts, kimchi and much more.   And wait till you see this menu:  passed appetizers, then 5 paired-courses all from a chef who cooks for celebrities and billionaires when not at The VUDE!  (more info on Melissa below)

In addition to their fantastic products, the folks at Firefly Kitchens just released their first cookbook so readers can make and cook with these products at home. The book will guide our extraordinary multi-coursed gourmet meal pairing fermented food and drinks.

We've all heard that a daily glass of red wine can have positive health benefits (a recommendation we take very seriously here at the VUDE), but as it turns out, wine isn't the only fermented food with health benefits! Firefly's fermented fare aids digestion and strengthens immune systems, and did we mention it's delicious?

VIP Session
You'll have the opportunity to learn more at a special VIP pre-session with Julie O'Brien and Richard Climenhage, founders of Firefly Kitchens and authors of Fresh and Fermented. They will lead a small group on a discussion of how to incorporate these products into your daily diet and answer all those questions (you don't even know you have yet) VIPs will also participate in a hands-on demo and walk away with their own signed copy of the new book.

The Details
Chef Melissa Maxwell, will prepare five courses each incorporating fermentation in a different (and sometimes hidden) way.  Each course will be paired with fermented libation (of course!) and all attendees will leave with a jar of something special from Firefly.

Suggested price $115, including 5 courses with beverage pairings, a take home product, tax and gratuity.

About Melissa Maxwell
Chef and caterer Melissa Maxwell is an expert at preparing international gourmet cuisine made from the finest seasonal, wholesome ingredients.  She is also known for her exquisite event design and beautiful food styling.  Original food combinations, complex sauces, and delicious seasonings enhance her unique menus.  

After working in Los Angeles as a film and television writer-producer, Maxwell followed her interest in food, taking a Marketing and Events position at a culinary college in Hollywood.  The college merged with Le Cordon Bleu and Melissa used her passion for food and lifestyle to study and graduate with honors while continuing to work at the renowned culinary college full-time.  Soon after, Tom Douglas Restaurants hired Maxwell, where she further trained, using natural ingredients and honing her passion for diverse cuisine.  She then went on to work as a private chef, cooking and also catering for a noted Seattle Seahawk player as well as another high net-worth client (of course we cannot say!).
