Alexis is broke and broken-hearted after the death of her cheating husband. Returning home for a relative's funeral raises her fears that life could get worse before it gets better. Confronted by her Latin and Jewish roots in the Fish family - particularly her domineering mother and eccentric sister - reminds Alexis why she fled. But a last minute job party-planning a Bat Mitzvah leads to a promising new romance. With love on the horizon and a newfound understanding of her dysfunctional family, Alexis lets go of her past.
