MJFF - Edie & Thea: A Very Long Engagement
Edie & Thea: A Very Long Engagement- DOCUMENTARY
Directors: Susan Muska & Greta Olafsdottir / Featuring: Edie Windsor and Thea Spyer 2009 USA / English / 61 minutes
Edie and Thea are finally getting married. This beautiful film about love, commitment, equality and survival tells the story of their forbidden love of 42 years. They meet in New York's West Village in the early 1960s and are soon "engaged," although the idea of a civil marriage for gay and lesbian couples was unthinkable at the time, and would not become a reality for four more decades. These remarkable women persevere through personal and political battles to emerge with a love story that is an inspiration to us all. Edie was ultimately the lead plaintiff in the case that overturned DOMA.
