LIVING SONG - An Evening of Songs from North American Composers and Poets
VISI proudly welcomes acclaimed American composer Jake Heggie, whose exhilarating At the Statue of Venus, directed by Gayle Shay, will be performed by soprano Robyn Driedger-Klassen and pianist Terence Dawson.
The concert also features the world premiere of Quintessence by Lloyd Burritt on poems by Marilyn Lerch, performed by mezzo-soprano Julie Simson, pianist Terence Dawson, and the Microcosmos string quartet, and a new arrangement of Michael Oesterle's Sweat and Mirror notwithstanding (poetry by Samuel Beckett), interpreted by soprano Carla Huhtanen and pianist Erika Switzer.
The celebration of North American song also includes works from Behrens, Cipullo, Gougeon, Morawetz, and Vancouver's own Jocelyn Morlock. Sopranos Martha Guth and Lambroula Maria Pappas, tenor Darryl Edwards, and baritone Phillip Addis team up with pianists David Bergeron, Emily Hamper and Steven Philcox for a jubilant evening of Living Song!
