Rebels with a Cause
Rebels With A Cause is the inspiring and emotionally moving story of how, in the 1950's through 1970's, a band of conservationists, ranchers, dairymen and politicians saved the lands that are now the Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate National Recreation Area from development. At a time when suburban developers planned housing developments, hotels, polo fields and multi-lane highways at the extension of the burgeoning city of San Francisco, ordinary citizens came together to do extraordinary things to protect this unique 80-mile stretch of land. This dramatic David and Goliath story weaves together themes of conservation, ecology, development, finance, politics and sustainability. Rebels With A Cause illustrates how people with vastly different ideas can create something coherent, and illuminates how an accumulation of individual visions can become a profound, connected success. This gorgeously shot, inspiring film arrives just in time to commemorate Point Reyes National Seashore's 50th anniversary, truly embodying the activist spirit as it celebrates conservation and community. 74 min; Audience Award, Best Documentary, Active Cinema, Mill Valley Film Festival.
