Adaptation: Creating a Resilient Future
Plan It Green is a Humboldt County-based, nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to the sustainable economic development of our community. We are working with Humboldt State University in the production of our 6th annual Building Green Communities Conference. This year's theme is "Adaptation: Creating a Resilient Future." We will examine the effects of a changing climate on energy and transportation systems, food production, economics and natural resources. Nationally recognized authors and experts will present their research and findings on the development of strategies and technologies that will build resiliency into our future. The conference will be held at Humboldt State University, on Thursday evening, July 19th and all day Friday July 20th. We will also be streaming most of the presentations on the internet and will set up off-site venues with groups around the world. This is an example of an adaptation strategy that allows people to attend online and participate in the event without having to burn fossil fuels to get here.
Following the conference, on Saturday, July 21st will be the Building Green Communities Tradeshow/Expo. It will be held at the Arcata Community Center and include exhibitors and vendors with information, goods and services related to the development of a sustainable and resilient future. We will also facilitate a number of working groups that will grapple with the issues presented at the conference and use the Community Resiliency Toolkit to develop plans for a prosperous future.
