Garden Workshops for Families provide opportunities for families with children ages 4 to 12 to explore biology, garden practices, soil science, and water in the desert in an outdoor garden setting. Hands-on, independent exploration, multi-media art including clay, poems, songs, stories. Included in your fee is a healthy theme-based snack, and a fun information educational Take Home packet. Classes occur on Friday or Saturday morning classes from 10-Noon, or Saturday afternoon classes 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Garden by the Seasons Spring Session March 25 - May 13, 2016
Want to learn about gardening basics together with your child? Think Spring! Learn about what and when to plant, how to test your soil and build a worm farm, and many other spring tasks in the garden. Join us for our new outdoor program, held in the outdoor classroom, the Kiwanis Learning Garden. This event will be outside, do dress appropriately.
Class 1: Know Your Yard's Soil plus Compost & Worms (Soil)
Class 2: Plant Anatomy and Life Cycle (Seeds)
Class 3: Food Factory: Photosynthesis & Water (Growing)
Class 4: How Animals Help Plants by Pollination & other ways (Growing)
Class times are:
Friday mornings, 10:00 am to Noon: March 25, April 8, April 22, May 13

Saturday mornings, 10:00 am to Noon: March 26, April 9, April 23, May 14
Saturday afternoons, 1:00-3:00 pm: March 26, April 9, April 23, May 14

All class participants must be accompanied by an adult. No more than two children may be registered per adult companion and no more than two adult companions may accompany any one child. Permission for attendance by siblings younger than 4 and older than 12 is made on a case-by-case basis with Learning Garden Coordinator. If you have a third child, please contact us for in house registration and payment of that fee of $72.00. Maximum class size is 12 children and their adult companions.
Cancellations made within seven days before the program are subject to forfeiture of the full payment. Cancellations made prior to seven days before the program are subject to a 50% handling fee. A waiting list will be maintained for each session that is full; no deposit is required. People on the waiting list will be notified in sequential order. Full refund will be given if the session is canceled by the Museum due to low enrollment.
The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science reserves the right to cancel any event that does not reach a minimum of 6 participants.
