Small Business Lunch at Halls
The King Street Marketing Group and Halls Chophouse are pleased to welcome local businesswoman and Charleston mayoral candidate, Ginny Deerin, as our guest speaker Thursday, September 10.

"As the founder and longtime CEO of WINGS for Kids, a summer and after-school program for children here in Charleston, I've helped give young people the support they need to succeed. And that's what being Mayor is all about  supporting success. I'll preserve the things that are working, fix those that aren't, so we add more good to an already great city."

*** Will she be the first woman Mayor of Charleston?
*** What do you want from the next Mayor?
*** From Ginny's campaign, "People across the city are excited about Ginny's plan to solve Charleston's biggest problem - traffic!"  Do you agree?

"I'm running for mayor to preserve and protect the Charleston we love, and that starts with comprehensive and bold action on transportation so we're not all stuck in traffic. I am the only candidate with a transportation plan for Charleston. My experience points to a record of thinking big and getting things donewhich is exactly the approach I'll take as a candidate and as Mayor."

In 1996, she founded and ran WINGS for Kids in Charleston, an effective after-school program that helps kids succeed. Over 90% of kids who participated in WINGS saw their test scores or grades improve. WINGS grew from one program on James Island to 10 programs across three states with a multimillion-dollar budget and 200 staff members.

Deerin is currently president of Lewis Walton, LLC, providing management, fundraising and leadership consulting services and has been a small business owner. She co-founded Project XX SC, a non-profit advocacy organization that encourages women to seek elected and appointed office.

In 2010, Deerin was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, our state's highest honor for public service. She was named the non-profit Leader of the Year by Trident United Way and was awarded the Golden Apple Award from WCSC-TV for her advocacy on behalf of children.

She graduated from the University of South Carolina and has called the Charleston area home for nearly 40 years. Deerin initially became involved in city politics working on Joe Riley's first mayoral race, and in 2011, she served as Mayor Riley's campaign manager in his final election. She lives in West Ashley, is a member of the LGBT community and has two adult children, a daughter-in-law, and two grandsons.

Each month, Small Business Lunch at Halls features a distinguished speaker from the business, civic or political arenas upstairs at Halls Chophouse with an imaginative three-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Matthew Niessner.

Tickets are $29 per person plus tax and processing fee for the luncheon. Doors open at 11:30 AM and lunch is served promptly at noon. Limited seating of 90 participants provides an intimate experience with each speaker.

Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston. Convenient parking is available at the Visitors Center Garage on Ann Street between King and Meeting Streets.
