Nigunim - the wordless vocal melodies of the Hasidim, written by rebbes and other composers to induce spiritual and ecstatic states and express communal joy - are the musical DNA of much Yiddish and klezmer music. This workshop, led by trumpeter Frank London, composer/vocalist Polina Shepherd, and clarinetist Merlin Shepherd - all of whom have all delved into the roots of this music and incorporate it into their own work - will explore these melodies and get everyone singing ... and perhaps even induce a spiritual, pre-Shabbos high. _____________________________________________________________
