Hot Tickets: Seattle

March 08, 2012 12:00 PM

Here are this week's hot tickets in the Seattle area. Check back every Thursday at noon, PST for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Friday, March 9 | Emerald City - Triggered by a conversation between playwright SP Miskowski and director Meghan Arnette about the changing cultural identity of Seattle, Emerald City is a haunting love note/ break up letter to the city. Miskowski artfully connects the past and the present as she weaves together history and a personal tale of longing, urban identity and change. A writer is forced to return to Seattle, site of her personal and professional ruin, to cover the story of Dorothy Dietrich. Crashing with a college roommate and proprietor of an earnest yet doomed tour business, and surreptitiously followed by a lover whose interest may be swayed by a surprising suitor, her life is once again changed by a trip she didn't want to take to a city she hoped never to see again.

Saturday, March 10 | Draw Attack! Costume Session with Brew and Live Music - Georgetown Atelier hosts its first monthly costume figure drawing session, featuring live baroque opera by Jordan Corbin of Watershed Opera and delicious brew from Georgetown Brewing Co! Enjoy the ambience of a working classical art school, which offers participants use of easels, work lamps and controlled lighting. The school is an active part of the Georgetown Art Attack art walk, allowing visitors to respectively witness the drawing session in action. Chinese Mortal Warrior P. Pan will be the model of the evening. Pose will be gestures, followed by 20 minute poses and a final 40 minute pose.

Saturday, March 10 | Labor & Lust 2012 - All of the proceeds of this event help support local women's rugby league the Mudhens RFC and the growth of the sport as a whole. These funds help to pay for fields, referees, & equipment throughout the year.  Throughout the Spring in 2012, the Mudhens will be traveling to colleges in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, to conduct rugby clinics. Our players and coaches provide teaching and analysis of the techniques and strategy of rugby, thereby encouraging player growth and the love of the sport. Through these clinics we have seen an immediate impact in how younger players approach the game.

Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 | Seattle Bicycle Expo - Description from the event organizers at the Cascade Bicycle Club: No matter how experienced or what style of bicyclist you are, Bike Expo features a plethora of interesting, informative and entertaining programming. Take your pick of three separate stages and presentation areas, plus  a full slate of interactive and fun activities for kids. New for 2012 we'll have hands-on craft demos in the Cascade Bicycle Club Booth and many more exhibits. Exhibitors from the United States and Canada fill more than 250 booths with exhibits of bikes, gear, travel, health and fitness.

Saturday, March 10 | The Royal Wenchbombs - In the words of Royal Tenenbaum, what do you say we grab some burgers and hit the cemetery? Or better yet, hit the Re-Bar for an amazing night of dancing, burlesque, entertainment and all-around shenanigans the likes of which could only come from the Sockit Wenches (and Wes Anderson). Dance the night away, be the first to see a new play by Margo Tenenbaum, and revel in burlesque from Lady Drew Blood, Juliet Bravo, newcomer Mad ScrapHer, and more.

Tuesday, March 13 | JOHN DIGWEED - Digweed is a dance music legend. He has been voted the #1 DJ in the world in DJ Magazine. His Bedrock record label, Transitions radio show and globe-trotting live sets are the definition of the electronic music experience. His releases on Global Underground, his infamous parties with partner Sasha. The Delta Heavy Tour. The movie Groove. Also featuring local heavyweight CHLOE HARRIS  and a special BIRTHDAY celebration for Trinity resident JASON LEMAITRE!

Tuesday, March 13 | Kicking It - Come see the movie that proves a ball can change your life. "Kicking It" is the acclaimed 2008 film about the Homeless World Cup in Capetown, South Africa.  Meet the man behind the U.S. street soccer team, Lawrence Cann, founder and CEO of Street Soccer USA, who is featured in the film, plus special guests Peter Fewing, legendary soccer coach and Sounders broadcaster who recently returned as the Seattle University men's soccer coach; and Julie Woodward, the acclaimed coach of the Seattle U women's team.

Wednesday, March 14 | Brown Bag Presentation: "How to Get Paid" - You've worked hard to get the project and do the work but how do you make sure you actually get paid for your time and effort? This lunchtime presentation will provide valuable legal strategies for ensuring you get paid for your artwork or artistic services, as well as what legal remedies are available to you if someone does not. Our attorney presenters from Graham & Dunn PC will cover strategies for structuring services contracts, key contract terms to make sure you include, how to write an effective demand letter, tips for navigating small claims court, and how to actually collect on your judgment
