Hot Tickets: San Francisco

January 24, 2012 12:00 PM
Here are this week's hot tickets in the San Francisco area. Check back every Tuesday at noon, PST for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Wednesday, January 25 | The Last Crop - The Last Crop tells the story of Jeff and Annie Main, who like many farming families, confront an uncertain future as development impinges on their rural community and their children choose careers off the farm. What sets the Mains apart is their resolve to ensure their land will remain affordable and productive for future farmers.

Thursday, January 26 | Conversations on Consent & Sex Work - Please pull up a chair at the Center for Sex & Culture for a conversation about Sex Work & Consent. Hosted by Femina Potens' "The Other View," a live talk show that introduces exciting and thoughtful dialogue on issues that affects the queer, women, sex worker, kink, and trans communities. Femina Potens hopes to continue a series of discussion panels that address the topic consent & rape culture within the community.

Friday, January 27 | Civil Disobedience: The Musical - After the publishing an off-Broadway run of "Prop 8 Love Stories," Walking Elephant Theatre Company is proud to present its next original documentary theatre & film project, CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE: THE MUSICAL. Actors 8 to 18 years old interviewed brilliant, charismatic people about civil disobedience. Now watch these young actors portray them, word for word, live - on stage, with original songs and movement pieces.

Friday, January 27 | Vice Palace: The Last Cockettes Musical - Fresh from performances at Lincoln Center and the HOWL Festival in New York City, Thrillpeddlers' original VICE PALACE cast returns to San Francisco with their smash hit revival, VICE PALACE: The Last Cockettes Musical. This musical mind trip imagines Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" as viewed through the lens of Frederico Fellini, and topped off with truly outrageous costumes, wigs and spectacular drag queen-ery. VICE PALACE follows Divina (played by drag king superstar, Leigh Crow), an eccentric and wealthy woman who spares no expense to keep her jet-set party guests entertained, while the villagers just beyond the walls of her lavish estate are ravaged by the plague.  Each performance must top the next in this bizarre race to escape the one uninvited party guest - death! - and look fabulous as they do it.

Saturday, January 28 - Sunday, January 29 | Bay Area International Children's Film Festival - BAICFF is a Playdate for the Imagination - an annual film festival programmed especially for families. Through the festival, children gain visual exposure to varied cultures, traditions, lives and experiences. As they come to better understand the world, children grow into thoughtful and conscious adults. During the first half of each day, they'll screen a series of shorts and a feature film for ages 3 and up. During the second half of each day, they'll show a series of shorts for ages 6 and up and a feature film for ages 8 and up. They'll also be hosting more dazzling animation workshops!
