Here are this week's Hot Tickets in the New York area. Check back every Friday at noon, EST for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

TONIGHT! Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14 I Zlatne Uste Golden Festival  The Zlatne Uste Golden Festival, New York's only music and dance festival of its kind, celebrates 27 years of live Balkan, Roma ("Gypsy") music and more. Over 50 live bands playing on FOUR stages.  Dance along or just listen--simple line and circle dance instruction is included on Friday. All profits are donated to charities. "I heard some beautiful Bulgarian type singing from a trio called Black Sea Hotel...Back down in the Grand Ballroom the act that pulled this whole festival togetherthe Zlatne Uste Brass Band was playing in the middle of the floor, as the dancers circled around them, like a massive swarm of bees." -- David Byrne. "Gorgeously funky festival" "...nothing less than a grassroots folk rave. ...who wouldn't want to dance?" -- Richard Gehr (Village Voice and eMusic). Online sales for the Golden Festival have concluded, but you can buy tickets at the door!

Saturday, January 14 I Our Generation  A powerful and upfront documentary on the Australian Aboriginal struggle for their land, culture and freedom - a story that has been silenced by the Australian Government and mainstream media. Driven by the remote Yolngu of Northeast Arnhem Land, one of the last strongholds of traditional Aboriginal culture in Australia, as well as the voices of national indigenous leaders, historians and human rights activists, the film explores the ongoing clash of cultures that is threatening to wipe out the oldest continuing culture in the world. With music by John Butler Trio, Yothu Yindi, Xavier Rudd, Gurrumul, Archie Roach, Goanna, Saltwater Band and more.

Saturday, January 14 I WARCHILD - NY's Premier Jethro Tull Tribute Show  Warchild - New York's Premier Jethro Tull Tribute Show will be performing selections from "Aqualung," "Thick As A Brick" and "Living in the Past," as a tribute to the 40th Anniversaries of these 3 classic Tull fan favorites that put Jethro Tull on the map as one of rock's most creative and unique bands of the '70s. All 3 albums were released between 1971-1972 and Warchild's show will feature songs from these albums plus assorted Tull hits & gems. Warchild has earned rave reviews for the band's "painstaking authenticity" and it's ability to "capture the youthful magic of Jethro Tull's live show circa 1971", and has been called "the picture of Tullian perfection" (Newsday); "Warchild is...a faithful recreation of a legendary progressive rock seemed as though we had stepped back in time" (Good Times Magazine); "Warchild is a startingly faithful Jethro Tull tribute act, with a singer whose likeness to Ian Anderson is almost uncanny" (Time Out New York).

Sunday, January 15 I Swinging the Blues: A Savoy Ballroom Anniversary Night Featuring Eddie Durham  Watch films about the Texas-born Jazz composer Eddie Durham, participate in a Q&A with Topsy Durham, eat, drink, dance the night away, and maybe even win an Eddie Durham signed guitar, in this evening curated by the Harlem Swing Dance Society, at the Maysles Cinema. The films 'Eddie Durham: Ambassador of Texas Jazz' (Diedre Lannon, 2010, 18 min.) and 'Eddie Durham' (Topsy Durham, 2005, 20 min.) will be screened followed by a discussion about the turn of the century Texas born composer, who was the pioneer of the amplified guitar, Charlie Christian's mentor and arranger of "In the Mood." Post-Screening Q&A with director Topsy Durham and president of Stratospheric Talent, which promotes and preserves both Jazz/Big Band Swing music and Blues culture in various mediums for future generations. A reception will follow with light refreshments, Swing dancing, the Lindy Hop and the music of Eddie Durham, Count Basie, Jimmie, Lunceford and the Sweethearts of Rhythm.

Tuesday, January 17 I Love, That's America...  A one man demonstration on politics and culture told through the poetry and music of filmaker and social icon, Melvin Van Peebles and his band.

Tuesday, January 17 I The Joy of Cheese Presents Kind of Blue  It's January, time to hunker down for the worst that winter has to throw our way, and there's no better food to fortify the soul, entertain the palate and celebrate the day, than great blue cheeses. In "Kind of Blue" (isn't there an album by that name?), attendees will sample and discuss seven amazing blues and two really good non blues.
