Hot Tickets: Boston

January 12, 2012 9:00 AM
Here are this week's Hot Tickets in the Boston area. Check back every Thursday at noon, EST for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

TONIGHT! Thursday, January 12 I ThIStHaT ShoW no.4 and no.5  Daniel McCusker Dance Projects, in collaboration with Central Square Theater, presents "ThIStHaT ShoW no.4 and no.5," new and recent works featured over a 2 week period. Works created by Sarah Baumert/Sara Smith, Lara Binder/Sheriden Thomas, Adriane Brayton, Nell Breyer, Audra Carabetta, Caitlin Corbett, Brian Crabtree, Heidi Henderson, Kristy Kuhn, and Morgan Packard; curated and produced by Daniel McCusker; lighting designed by Paul Marr.

Saturday, January 14 I ST. HELENA, MARC PINANSKY, BLACK FORTRESS OF OPIUM and THE FATAL FLAW Cheap Thrills Boston said this about headling St. Helena: "Go ahead and love St Helena. This is some gorgeous playing on brilliantly written (and thoroughly depressing) songs. I listened to "Oh Jane" over and over; it's as if they took the chassis from Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" and gave it a superior engine, body, and paint job." Opener Marc Pinansky is the brilliant lead vocalist and guitarist for the rock band Township in a (somewhat) rare solo acoustic performance. Northeast Performer Magazine recently said this of Black Fortress of Opium: "Intensity and dark regality dominant feelings of haunting, other-worldliness and mystique. Black Fortress of Opium truly makes you believe that you just may be listening to something highly monumental." Boston's The Fatal Flaw have been gaining momentum with a playful juxtaposition of biting cynicism and shameless pop sensibility earning them distinction as a "Band Worth Watching."

Sunday, January 15 and Monday, January 16 I Solomon Schechter Day School - Mary Poppins  Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston Presents their production of P.L. Travers' "Mary Poppins." Mary Poppins started as a series of children's books written by Travers and illustrated by Mary Shepard. The books centered on the magical English nanny, Mary Poppins who was blown by the East wind to Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane, London and into the Banks' household to care for their children. The books were adapted into the classic 1964 Disney films starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, and in 2004, Disney Theatrical produced a stage musical adaptation in the West End theatre. Now this classic tale comes to Chestnut Hill for three performances courtesy of the Solomon Schechter Day School.

Starting Wednesday, January 18 I Green Eyes  Straight from its sold-out run in New York City, Company One is proud to present Travis Chamberlain's highly acclaimed site-specific production of Tennessee Williams' "Green Eyes" at The Ames Hotel. Written in 1970 but unpublished for almost 40 years, this "lost" erotic thriller graphically reveals the impact of war through the sexual fantasies of a newlywed couple honeymooning in New Orleans. He's a soldier, traumatized by his participation in the war; she's a ravenous woman determined to satisfy the darkest recesses of her most deviant desires. Starring the acclaimed NYC actress Erin Markey "a kittenish vixen whose sexual pliancy hides an iron will" (The New York Times) "Green Eyes" transforms a honeymoon suite into a psychosexual battleground where desire and violence blur and become indistinguishable. With only 25 seats available per show, this is an exclusive theatrical event you do not want to miss!
