Hot Tickets: Seattle

November 10, 2011 12:00 PM

Every Thursday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Seattle. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Friday, November 11 I An Evening with Reilly & Maloney - Perhaps the most endearing duo to grace the West Coast folk music scene, Ginny Reilly & David Maloney bring their timeless sound to West Seattle's intimate Kenyon Hall.  Expect plenty of old favorites sprinkled throughout the evening - the pair celebrated their *40th* year singing together in 2010! - but also new selections from their recent work including David's new solo album "One Day More."

Friday, November 11 & Saturday, November 12 I Pirates of Penzance - STAGEright Theatre presents a show you thought you'd already seen: "The Pirates of Penzance." This Gilbert and Sullivan classic is one of the most influential and well-known light operettas of all time and though more than 130 years old, it is still as charming and relevant as ever. Traditionally performed with dozens of singers, Director Brendan Mack's staging features a cast of eleven playing every role in the show. This gender-bending production draws influence from Lady Gaga, "Glee," Elvis Presley, Carol Burnett, "Grease," Sesame Street, Ru Paul's Drag Race, and many other cultural icons. This is a rendition of Pirates not to be missed!

Saturday, November 12 I After Hours - The moon rises over EMP Museum for After Hours, an all ages dance party designed by teens for teens. An evening of monsters, music, and madness, this killer dance party honors EMP's new exhibit "Can't Look Away: The Lure of Horror Films." Deadly attire is encouraged, so hit the Halloween clearance aisle and break out your scariest wares. Prizes awarded for Best Blood Sucker, Best Shapeshifter, and Most Killer Costume. Horror makeup masters will be on hand to help release your inner monster. Live music from THEESATISFACTION, KNOWMADS, DYNO JAMZ, and DJ DARWIN. Long before Edward vs. Jacob, vampires and werewolves represented two of the most iconic monsters of the silver screen. Much like Prince and Michael Jackson, the most important duels must be settled on the dance floor. Additional activities include: Youth-made horror films from NFFTY, photo booth from Youth in Focus, flashlight teen tours of "Can't Look Away: The Lure of Horror Films," and a scream booth where attendees can play villain or victim as they scream on cue!

Saturday, November 12 I Evergreen Plants of Seward Park Guided Nature Walk - Fall is here and while all those deciduous plants have lost their leaves and are looking like twiggy duplicates of each other, the evergreens of Seward Park still have beautiful green leaves to help you tell who is who! With Seward Park Audubon Center staff botanists, you'll take a 1.5-2 mile walk through the forest and learn all about the evergreen plants of Seward Park, how to identify each one, what animals prefer certain plants and which evergreens have some great ethnobotanical uses.

Sunday, November 13 I Naked Girls Reading Science Fiction - Ladies, gentlemen, fans everywhere of ecdysial erudition, it is with utmost pleasure and quivering titillation that we announce: SEATTLE'S NAKED GIRLS READING HAVE RETURNED! Never heard of Naked Girls Reading? Its just as it sounds! Featuring celebrated, cerebral Seattle soubrettes: Miss Polly Wood, Heidi Von Haught, Jesse Belle-Jones, host librarian Elsa Von Schmaltz and special guest reader Diva le Déviant! And what better way to warm our bare, ahem, books back up in the Emerald City than by revisiting one of the very favorite past themes? Due to high demand and laudation from learned legions, lovers, and local press, Naked Girls Reading has chosen to revisit NAKED GIRLS READING SCIENCE FICTION! The scintillating, science fiction salon of last Spring which landed them on the cover of The Stranger.

Know of any other events happening in the Seattle area this week? Post them in the comments section.
