Hot Tickets: Boston

November 10, 2011 9:07 AM
Every Thursday at noon, EST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Boston area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Thursday, November 10, Friday, November 11 & Saturday, November 12 I Full Contact Theater Company's TITUS ANDRONICUS - "O brother, help me with thy fainting hand... " As we all settle down for an extended period of wintry chill and darkness, come join Full Contact Theater for a tale of brotherhood, love, loyalty, fear, and brutal bloodshed! "Titus Andronicus" is the grisly story of a feud between the Roman general Titus Andronicus and Tamora, Queen of the Goths. Titus returns from a decades-long campaign on the Roman frontier bearing Goth prisoners and the subsequent sacrifice of Tamora's eldest child by Titus' sons begins a long, twisted chain of revenge and destruction that leads the two parents to an ultimate demise. However, the Rome that Shakespeare leads us into is quite unlike the Rome of Julius Caesar or Coriolanus. Titus's Rome is surrounded on all sides by the wildness of its enemies and it's tainted within by corruption: a place where violent rituals and brutal punishment replace the rule of law.

Friday, November 11 I Bootleggers Prohibition Bash - This Friday, Bella Luna Restaurant & Milky Way Lounge will be celebrating 18 years of operations in Jamaica Plain. To celebrate, they will be hosting the "Bootleggers' Prohibition Bash" featuring The Mood Swings Orchestra, a 17 piece-all female Big Band playing hits of the Roaring 20's, vintage-themed menu options, 'bootlegger' cocktails and a photographer providing guests with a personalized souvenir. Everyone is encouraged to arrive in costume and celebrate in true roaring twenties style.

Friday, November 11 & Saturday, November 12 I The Attic, The Pearls and Three Fine Girls - 'The Attic, The Pearls and Three Fine Girls' is a comedy collectively written by Martha Ross, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Jennifer Brewin, Alisa Palmer and Leah Cherniak. WAM's production is the Berkshire Premiere of this Canadian play, which the Ottawa Citizen called 'a piece of theatre with warmth, humour and irresistible broadness of heart'. In keeping with WAM's double philanthropic mission, a portion of proceeds from the production will be donated to The Berkshire United Way Teen Pregnancy Initiative. The play is a visit with the three fine sisters: Jojo (Barbara Cardillo) is a university professor obsessed with Brecht, Jayne (Deann Simmons Halpe) is a bi-sexual corporate shark and Jelly (Karen Lee) is an eccentric artist who loves boxes. A poignant romp through the attic in the home of their recently-deceased father reminds the fine sisters of their childhood and forces them to redefine their future together.

Saturday, November 12 I For the Sake of the Song: A Tribute to Willie Nelson - For the Sake of the Song brings together local musicians to perform their own material and pay tribute the songwriters who have influenced them. For the November edition, For the Sake of the Song will pay tribute to Willie Nelson with Susan Cattaneo, Highway Ghosts, and Glenn Yoder. Hear classic songs like "Crazy", "Gotta Get Drunk" and more along with original material from featured artists!

Saturday, November 12 I Barry Crimmins - "Occupation:Occupation" Tour Kick-Off - Barry Crimmins performs his first full-length show in the Boston area in over a year at the New England Folk Music Archives Gallery. This is a very small but very special venue, perfect for Barry to kick off his "Occupation: Occupation" tour.
