Hot Tickets: Boston

November 03, 2011 9:00 AM

Every Thursday at noon, EST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Boston area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Starts Thursday, November 3 - The Attic, The Pearls and Three Fine Girls  'The Attic, The Pearls and Three Fine Girls' is a comedy collectively written by Martha Ross, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Jennifer Brewin, Alisa Palmer and Leah Cherniak. WAM's production is the Berkshire Premiere of this Canadian play, which the Ottawa Citizen called 'a piece of theatre with warmth, humour and irresistible broadness of heart'. In keeping with WAM's double philanthropic mission, a portion of proceeds from the production will be donated to The Berkshire United Way Teen Pregnancy Initiative. The play is a visit with the three Fine sisters. Jojo (Barbara Cardillo) is a university professor obsessed with Brecht, Jayne (Deann Simmons Halpe) is a bi-sexual corporate shark and Jelly (Karen Lee) is an eccentric artist who loves boxes. A poignant romp through the attic in the home of their recently-deceased father reminds the Fine sisters of their childhood and forces them to redefine their future together.

Friday, November 4 - Boston Christmas Festival With 350 exhibitors, this award winning show is the largest crafts festival in New England and features handcrafted gifts, holiday decorations, jewelry, clothing, pottery, folk art, delicious foods to buy and sample and so much more! Don't miss this blockbuster event which has started Boston's holidays for 25 years.

Starts Friday, November 4 - Dark Matters  In an isolated house at the edge of a cornfield, Bridget Cleary goes missing in the dead of the night. Her husband and son scramble to help Sheriff Egan find her. Then, as suddenly as she vanished, Bridget reappears, talking about strange visitations and otherworldly beings. Is she lying? Or are supernatural forces at work?

Friday, November 4 - Guy Fawkes Pub Night Calling all history nerds and pub quiz junkies! Join Boston History at the Old State House for the nerdiest pub quiz in Boston! Grab a pint, learn about how Guy Fawkes Day was celebrated in Colonial Boston, and participate in a game of British- and American-history-themed pub trivia.  Experts and novices welcome!  Come in teams, or make a team when you get here. Limit of six people per team. Space is limited. Admission includes two tickets redeemable at the bar for beer or other beverages.

Saturday, November 5 - Humour Us  Are you of a singularly sanguine, choleric, melancholic, or phlegmatic inclination? The ninth entry in Fort Point Theatre Channel's popular series of short new works is inspired by the Four Ancient Humours, from the theory that the human body was filled with four basic substances. When the Four Humours were in balance, a person would be healthy. Disease resulted when they were not. The evening includes: "Alignment" -  a play by Barry Eitel, "Beds" - a play by Susan Cinoman, "A Better World" (an excerpt from a play in progress) - by Nick Thorkelson, "The Fifth Humor" - by Rick Winterson, "The Four Humours" - by Six One Seven Dance Collective, "Humor Me" - poem and projections by Maureen Tracy Venti, "I Never Got to Say and Lonesome Town" - two cello pieces by Cam Sawzin and "The Ten-Block Walk: An Old-Person's Odyssey" (an excerpt from an opera in progress) - by Christie Lee Gibson (libretto) and Erin Huelskamp (composer).
