October 18, 2011 12:12 PM

Every Tuesday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets will post upcoming events happening in the San Francisco Bay Area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Thursday, October 20 | Sugar Skull Making Workshop: 18 Reasons lives in the Mission and Dia de los Muertos is a huge holiday here. Within the traditions of the day, sugar skulls play a meaningful role, representing deceased loved ones who living celebrants want to honor. Learn how to make your own sugar skulls at this hands-on workshop with Michele from the Sugar Skull Gallery. After she walks you through the making and decorating processes, each participant will decorate two sugar skulls using all kinds of traditional and not-so traditional materials which are all included.

Friday, October 21 | La Boutique Obscure: Pajama Party Edition!: The Third Friday of each month, there will be an all-new La Boutique Obscure, with new acts and special guests! Live music, puppetry, and impossible nonsense abound. This month: See the Clockwork Wonder Jezebel Wilder twirl and spin real fire, Phineas Zlotnika the Great dazzles audiences far and wide as he exhibits superb balance and agility performing unbelievable feats of acrobatics, the Incredible James MacConn delights in a dramatic display of daredevil stunts & juggling, and La Petit Tilly Rex performs most unusual and dangerous feats: fire breathing, fire eating, glass eating, lighting candles. Plus, Delightful Alchemical Concoctions and Libations available at Dr. Jack Kästner's Medicine Show while supplies last!

Saturday, October 22 | Being Elmo: This documentary has been winning awards left and right and might just make you cry your eyes out to boot! Elmo is an international icon, but few people know the man beneath the puppet, Kevin Clash. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, this documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at Sesame Street and the Jim Henson Workshop. Being Elmo is a reminder that embracing the mischievous monster inside us all can change the world!

Saturday, October 22 | STOP & GO Rides Again: The Stop & Go show features a broad range of emerging work in the field of stop-motion animation and pushes the boundaries of cinematic possibility by showcasing a diversity of techniques and approaches by both established filmmakers and visual artists who are new to the process. Featured in this animation program are works by Reed Anderson & Daniel Davidson, Alessandra Ausenda, Lizzie Black & Anna Maria Murphy, Kathy Aoki, Paz de la Calzada & Michael Rauner, Deborah Davidovits, Almut Determeyer, Owen Gatley & Luke Jinks, Sarah Klein, Evelien Lohbeck, Miwa Matreyek, Tucker Nichols, David O'Kane, Ara Peterson, Mel Prest,  Jen Stark,  Melinda Stone & Sam Sharkey, Sjors Vervoort, Andy Vogt, and Scott Wolniak.

Monday, October 24 | Berkeley, Let's Get America Vegucated!: The very first West Coast stop for Vegucated, a feature-length documentary that follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks. Lured by tales of weight lost and health regained, they begin to uncover the hidden sides of animal agriculture that make them wonder whether solutions offered in films like Food, Inc. go far enough. Before long, they find themselves risking everything to expose an industry they supported just weeks before. But can their convictions carry them through when times get tough?  This accessible, entertaining documentary showcases the rapid and at times comedic evolution of three people who share one journey and ultimately discover their own paths in creating a kinder, cleaner, greener world, one bite at a time.
