Hot Tickets: Boston

October 06, 2011 8:52 AM

Every Thursday at noon, EST, Brown Paper Tickets posts upcoming events happening in the Boston area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

STARTS TONIGHT!! The Wrathskellar  The Boston Babydolls present a very dark shade of burlesque in this archetypal underworld tavern where hearts, promises, and crockery are broken with abandon and secrets are hidden just below the surface. "The Wrathskellar" is just off an alley in Queen Victoria's London or down a flight of stairs that Mack the Knife might have tread.  In the dim limelight, a chanteuse sings forlornly of a lost love, while The Diva plots revenge for some imagined slight and The Lost Girl wonders if she'll ever get home. A departure from The Boston Babydolls usual mix of bubbly fun and retro glamour, "The Wrathskellar" is a moody whirlpool of sinister dirges, predatory laments, and torch songs in a minor key.  Instead of big band and swing, the soundtrack for "The Wrathskellar" features atmospheric and evocative works from Ute Lemper, Jacques Brell, Tom Waits, and Rufus Wainwright.  A completely immersive experience, The Boston Babydolls have transformed the site in "The Wrathskellar."

Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8 Beacon Hill/Back Bay Food Tour  Boston Food Finds is thrilled that CBS Boston considers Boston Food Finds one of the two new local businesses to watch. You'll also find us in the current issue of Edible Boston. Boston Food Finds conducts food tours throughout Boston and surrounding areas. Fun and food are the main ingredients in all of our tours. While tour stops are subject to change, past Beacon Hill/Back Bay food tours have started at Scampo restaurant at the Liberty Hotel. Additional tour stops have included Savenor's Market, Beacon Hill Chocolates, Copley Square Farmers' Market, Sabatino and Company, Turner Fisheries and Sweet Cupcakes. Join us and find out where Derek Jeter likes to dine when he visits Boston. And where Oprah frequently buys gift baskets. Visit Julia Child's favorite market, and a cupcake shop that was a regular stop for a celebrity couple's young daughter. And what would a visit to Boston be without tasting our Hall of Fame chowder? We can't send you home without doing that, can we?

Friday, October 7 THE NEPHROK! ALLSTARS and GOAT present a night of FUNK 'N' COUNTRY  GOAT: Steeped in the country and Bluegrass songs of the 1940s-1960, GOAT plugs in guitars guitars and turns it up. A true Bluegrass power trio with tight harmony vocals. Murder ballads and barn burners alike. NEPHROK! ALLSTARS: This premier Boston-based band consists of some of the the most talented musicians around. Their music spans several decades and many genres including Soul, R&B, Rock, and undoubtedly The Funk. It's widely known that The Nephrok! Allstars always bring a funky good time and experience that you'll never forget!

Wednesday, October 12 FULL TANG October Residency! with special gusts each week  Full Tang is about moving bodies and bringing the raw element.  The Boston-based quartet stands out among the crowd of great dance bands.  Drawing influence from West African Highlife, Chimurenga music of Zimbabwe, Latin, Reggae and Dub, Full Tang has been described as "an ethnomusicologist's version of a Solid Gold Dance Party."  The band came together playing in the internationally acclaimed Afrobeat group The Superpowers, and achieve the same big band intensity being a group of talented multi-instrumentalists.  At any Full Tang show you can expect to see the bassist on drums, drummer on trumpet, guitarist on bass, and the keyboardist handling bass lines, sax and keys simultaneously.
