Hot Tickets: San Francisco

October 04, 2011 12:00 PM
Every Tuesday at noon, PST, Brown Paper Tickets will post upcoming events happening in the San Francisco Bay Area. Here are hot tickets for events coming up. Check back for stellar events that fit the interests of locals and tourists alike.

Tomorrow, October 5 | Book'toberfest: The Authors' Carnival invites you to put the 'pub' back into 'publishing' as the Mechanics Institute celebrates their first annual book fair and local beer tasting! Come hoist a stein with local authors, indie publishers, booksellers, reviewers, agents, editors, and representatives from the publishing industry as they toast our members' recent publications. Find out about new trends in the indie and small publishing world, get tips on getting your book published, reviewed, and sold in San Francisco, and buy books written by Mechanics Institute members.

Thursday, October 6 | Shocktoberfest 12: FEAR OVER FRISCO: The blood-thirsty spectacle of the Grand Guignol seeps into the shadowy cinematic world of film noir in "Shocktoberfest 12: FEAR OVER FRISCO," a collaboration between the city's renowned Thrillpeddlers and "Czar of Noir" Eddie Muller, author of the evening's three plays. Each tale leads the audience through a different period of terror and titillation in San Francisco's noir-stained history: the contemporary déjà vu dread of "The Grand Inquisitor," the post-WWII hysterics of "An Obvious Explanation," and the Prohibition era high- and low-life of "The Drug." In addition, "Shocktoberfest 12: FEAR OVER FRISCO" features musical director Scrumbly Koldewyn's merrily macabre musical interludes. The bill culminates with Thrillpeddlers' famed black-out spook show finale when ghostly apparitions materialize before the audience's startled eyes. The Hypnodrome's "Shock Box" seats provide pairs of patrons with privacy and an added jolt of lights-out thrills.

Friday, October 7 | Making Porn: A play that explores the lives of 6 people involved in the gay pornography industry.

Saturday, October 8 I Brentwood Family Farm to Fork (Pizza!) Tour: Spend time in the orchards, meet the farmers at both Knoll's and Smith Family Farm, tour the farms, take home your own fresh fruit and veggies, and enjoy fresh pizza!

Sunday, October 9 | Philosophy Talk at The Marsh SF: Two talks: MILITARY SERVICE AND PUBLIC LIFE with David Kennedy and IS DEMOCRACY A UNIVERSAL VALUE? with Larry Diamond.
